Secondary Campus Visual Arts
Year 8 – Visual Arts
Students explored the Surrealist artists MC Escher, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, and Brad Holland. They created ‘Fantasy Handscapes’ using their own hands in a Surrealist inspired composition.
Year 9 – Fashion & Textiles
The Year 9 students have been researching local Adelaide artist and Designer, Tiff Manuell who creates hand-crafted pieces of art to wear, designed to bring colour and happiness into the lives they land in.
The students’ task was to design a clutch inspired by Manuell’s art work. They experimented in a variety of mixed media and transferred their best design on to an A3 piece of canvas. The final clutch was constructed using pattern development and sewing skills.
Year 10 – Visual Art
The Year 10 Art students explored the work of American artist, Chuck Close, who has achieved international recognition for his large scale portraits and grid-oriented approach.
The students drew a portrait of themselves, a member of their family, or a friend, and utilised maths and art skills through their awareness of scale and proportion. They used a grid to break down the portrait into small incremental units so that they could focus on each part to avoid being overwhelmed by the whole.
The Year 10 students also explored clay building techniques to create an authentic warrior-style figure. This was inspired by pattern and line artworks of Indigenous and Maori artists from New Zealand.
