From the Principal

Dear St Michael’s College Community,

Primary Campus Tours
What a pleasure it was to see our Primary Campus Leaders conducting the College tours at the Primary campus Friday morning. Not only were they engaging and confident in their conversation, but genuinely excited and proud to showcase (show off) their learning, community and facilities to prospective families. It was also pleasing to see how the adults on the tour engaged with our young leaders, encouraging them, but also asking many questions along the way. Whilst this is obviously useful to find out more about the College, it also provides the opportunity for our students to grow and thrive through the challenge of the experience.

Thank you to all the families who took the time to find out a little more about a St Michael’s education and to our amazing student leaders Jude Cowan (6B), Arthur Killoh (6B), Sonny Consalvo (6M), Marcus Waye (6B), Robert Mazzone (6B), Riley Bell (6B), Marco Didyk (6B), Kaylan Patel (6B), Nikola Radic (6M) and Oliver Van Dommele (6M).

Athletics Day 2021
House spirit was well and alive for the SMC Secondary Athletics Day on Monday 22 February. Well done to Solomon House for taking home the Br Chris Gorringe Cup as 2021 Champions and to La Salle for being awarded the Geoff Cornish House Spirit Cup. Well done also to all age champions and event winners and importantly all those who participated in the day. Whilst the pleasant weather helped, it was a hugely successful day due to the way our students engaged in the day. Thank you to Mrs Sally Nicholson, her team and all the staff involved on the day. In Sally’s words, all the hours put in to getting an event like this up and running are totally worth it when we see the fun and enjoyment of the students throughout the day.

Year 7 Camps
Transition and change provide some of the most exciting, yet challenging times throughout our lives, with the move from primary to secondary school being no exception. Building relationships with other students and staff is key to ensuring the inclusive and respectful community we aspire to at St Michael’s College, with the Year 7 camps being an important part of this journey. Last week’s camps, held at Aldinga, Finniss, Woodhouse and Wallaroo were again a wonderful opportunity for Year 7 staff and students to get to know each other a little better, enjoy some time away from the normal learning environment, have some fun and perhaps be challenged by some new experiences. Well done to our Year 7s for the manner in which they supported each other and made the most of the opportunity. Thank you also to Mr Calo, Mrs Howat and the Year 7 team, as well as other staff who prepared and participated in the camps for the benefit of our young people.

Brother John Pill
Thank you to Br John Pill for taking the time to visit us this week. John is a past Principal and great friend of St Michael’s and it was a pleasure to have him at the College this week. I know John enjoyed his time speaking with staff and touring the facilities (including the new Early Primary and Innovation Centre) and we hope to see more of him at St Michael’s throughout the year as a valuable member of our Lasallian family.

Kind regards,

John Foley
