Kiara Didyk in Year 7 (winning gold) and Marco Didyk in Year 5 (winning bronze) for their successful Junior Cyclocross State Championship victories
On Sunday 6 September, the Junior Cyclocross State Championships were held at Gepps Cross. For those new to the cyclocross discipline, it is a winter sport best described as cross country running for road bikes, where cyclists take on a course featuring, pavement, gravel, sand, grass, steep hills and obstacles, requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. They, like many other cyclists, had to adjust their training this year to account for COVID.
After a lot of hard work and determination Kiara exceeded even her own expectations to win gold and come first in the Under 15 girls, whilst Marco fought hard against a difficult field to win bronze and come third in the Under 13 boys. A fantastic effort from both Kiara and Marco after a great deal of hard work.
SAPSASA Soccer Team
Congratulations to Hannah Timpani, Alexia Carrozza and their Airport District team, for winning the Division 1 Soccer State Metro Carnival.
The Airport team played eight matches, winning seven and drawing one of them. The team had to win the final match to win the competition. Early in the second half, the team’s star player sustained an injury and limped off the field. With only five minutes of the match remaining the score was 1 – 1; the coach then sent her back onto the field and she scored two more goals to give her team a 3 – 1 victory!
