Congratulations to three of our SMC Music Ensembles who competed in two major festivals over last weekend.

ANCA Senior Vocal Jazz (SVJ)
SVJ left school at 7:30am Friday 30 April to travel to the Norwood Concert Hall, the scene of the 2021 ANCA Vocal Jazz Festival. The students were warming up with 4-part harmonies in the bus all the way there – the bus driver said it was the most enjoyable journey he had ever had! The students performed wonderfully, and achieved a silver award in Division 2, placing 6th out of 14 choirs. An excellent result! Congratulations to the students and their director, Ms Jessica Bigg, on working so hard and achieving such a wonderful sound.

Big Band 1 and Big Band 2
Big Band 1 and Big Band 2 had their first public performances in nearly two years on Saturday, when they took part in the ABODA 2021 SA Schools Jazz Festival at the University of Adelaide. The students really enjoyed the experience, and they played very well on two very famous Adelaide stages – Big Band 1 in Elder Hall, and Big Band 2 in the Scott Theatre. Both bands achieved silver awards in their divisions, a very good achievement! A special mention to our students who played solos in the band pieces – Paolo Guttilla (12PC-10), Rhys Thorpe (12PC-07), Henry Cook (11PC-05), Max Pook-Kathriner (9BPC-02), Joshua Lucas (10PC-05), and Charlotte McCarthy (9GPC-04).

Congratulations to all students in our bands and choirs, you represented the college and your families admirably!

Mr Tim Donovan, Director of Music – Secondary

Congratulations to Monet Lyle (12PC-10) and Lily-Mae Balkwill (10PC-05) on being selected to represent South Australia in the National Netball Championships. Monet and Lily-Mae will be travelling to Hobart in July to compete in the U19 and U17 teams respectively.

The SMC community wish you both the best of luck!

Congratulations to Jasper Cusack (7BPC-03) who recently won an ice skating competition. This now qualifies Jasper to fly to Sydney where he will compete in a national competition in the hope of being selected to represent the country. Well done Jasper! Click here to watch Jasper’s performance.
