OPEN GIRLS KNOCKOUT FOOTBALL
On Thursday 27 August, the Open Girls Football Team played their third round knockout and intercol game against Trinity College. After some key personnel from Year 11 and 12 suffered injuries from previous matches, various Year 10 students came in to play their first senior intercol game. The girls started well kicking five goals with what seemed a 3-4 goal breeze in the first quarter. In the second quarter, St Michael’s took control of the game, not giving Trinity a look at the goals in the second quarter with the breeze. Year 10 student, Tayla Dawkins, dominated in the ruck once again against a much taller Year 12 student from Trinity, giving midfielders Alicia Gaffney and Chloe Schwarz the opportunity to move the ball forward from most stoppages. Charlotte Dolan read the ball well all day playing a kick behind the contest and racking up numerous bounces and inside 50 entries. The highlight of the day was two Year 11 students, Tasmyn Fiegert and Lauren Hoffmann who kicked 5 and 4 goals respectively and put the game well beyond reach for Trinity. St Michael’s College came away with a 101 point victory and now play for a spot in the Grand Final against Mercedes College in Week 9 at West Adelaide Football Club. Congratulations to Chloe Scharwz on winning the Trinity Intercol Most Valuable Player award. Good luck to all girls playing in Week 9 and well done on a great knockout season so far.
