Vocational Education and Training (VET) Courses are in full swing and currently 190 Year 11 and 12 students are undertaking studies that will assist with their career pathways. In many cases, these courses give students a ‘taste’ of an industry area that may or may not reinforce that this is a direction they wish to continue. Currently we offer 30 courses, with Certificate 3 in Public Safety (through SurfSA) set to begin in Term 2.
I recently visited students at Quality Automotive Training at Rosewater and they are thoroughly enjoying learning more about the automotive industry!
Year 10 students are able to participate in Semester 2 and I will be speaking to them in Week 8 to outline available options.
Mr Kevin Woolford, VET Coordinator
We have free access to a great resource called Explore Careers which is designed to bring school students together with their future employers. On the website there are various videos, podcasts, resources for parents and a career quiz. We encourage you to have a look at their website by clicking here.
YEAR 12 CAREERS PRESENTATION
On Wednesday 3 March, Year 12 students were shown a Careers PowerPoint with links to many opportunities in the areas of Work Experience, University of Adelaide STEM Academy, ANU Early Applications and much more. This PowerPoint can be viewed through the Careers and Vet Portal on SEQTA under ‘Important Information’ then ‘Presentations’.
YEAR 11 AND YEAR 12 WORK EXPERIENCE TERM 1 2021
The deadline to hand up the completed work experience paperwork is Friday 19 March. Please note the week set aside for work experience this term is the first week of the school holidays, Tuesday 12 April – Friday 16 April. Students need to have gone through the correct procedures to be approved for a placement. We cannot process late requests and approve placements, as there are many legal requirements. If you have any concerns, please email Mr Anthony Vizaniaris before March 19 deadline. Year 11’s may wish to look at the PowerPoint presented to the Year 12 at the assembly this week as there were many opportunities for Work Experience outlined.
