Week 6 was Italian Week at St Michael’s College, celebrating the birth of the Italian Republic on 2 June 1946. Students of Italian have been learning about Italian and Australian flags, anthems, Coats of Arms, history, referendums, monarchies, republics, political figures and cultural identity as part of their studies.
Albeit somewhat more subdued than previous years due to certain restrictions in place, this year we held an inaugural Education Perfect Italian Week competition which saw almost 200 students across the Secondary Campus answer over 56,000 questions over five days.
Congratulations to the following students for their outstanding achievements, which have earned them Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates, and particularly to Year 9 student Joel for his convincing win. Bravo!
Year 9 Logo Design
Earlier this term, Mr De Lorenzis’ Year 9 Digital Technology class was involved in an Italian Design challenge. The students were asked to create a new logo for use on all Italian STEM tasks at the College, suitable for both print and digital format, highlighting a clear cross-curriculum focus for those learning activities. This provided students with some real-world experience, as they were designing an image with set requirements and for a real purpose. Congratulations to Noah, whose winning logo was selected during Italian Week by a majority of the judging panel. This logo will now be used for all St Michael’s College i-STEM tasks. What an honour! Bravissimo, Noah!
