Passing of Br Christopher Francis Gorringe FSC

BR CHRISTOPHER FRANCIS GORRINGE FSC
10 September 1945 – 13 April 2020

It is with great sadness that St Michael’s College advises of the passing of Br Chris Gorringe following a battle with cancer.

Br Chris has been a great servant, supporter and friend of St Michael’s College over many years.  He was a member of our community as a Teacher and Assistant Sportsmaster from 1974 to 1978 and again in 1985 to 1990.  In 2007, Br Chris was appointed as the inaugural Chair of the St Michael’s College Board and held this position for 9 years.  He was also a valued and respected member of the SMC Finance Committee for 13 years.

Chris was a highly intelligent, perceptive and driven man, who showed genuine care and concern for those around him. He had a remarkable wit that kept all of us on our toes! He was a wonderful Lasallian mentor, sounding board and support to many.

Br Chris was a very private person and thus had kept the seriousness of his illness close whilst setting himself some final work tasks he was determined to finish. Chris chose the following quotation for his Memorial card:

“Be satisfied with what you can do because God is satisfied … but be assured that with the help of God’s grace you can accomplish more than you can possibly imagine” (John Baptist De La Salle).

He will be sorely missed.
